In short

Fish for Silver Singles is free to join, build a profile and browse. Reading and replying to messages needs a paid membership, priced in US dollars and renewing automatically until you turn it off in Settings > Billing. Statements show the billing name displayed at checkout, and the member terms allow a pro-rata refund only if at least 40% of the period is unused.

Current plans

Signing up and browsing cost nothing; you pay only for a membership that lets you read and reply to messages. These are the current plans, as shown in the members' area.

US prices as shown in the members area on 16 October 2026; the members area shows the exact price before you pay. Memberships renew automatically until you cancel in Settings > Billing. Your statement shows the billing name displayed at checkout.

The members' area always shows the exact price before you pay, and that's the figure that counts.

What you get without paying

A free account lets you sign up, build a profile, add photos, browse other members and receive interest from them. What it doesn't let you do is read or reply to messages, see read receipts, see who has viewed or liked you, or view members' photos in full. Free accounts also show adverts.

It's worth browsing before you pay. Profiles are shared with partner sites in the same network, so you'll see members from those sites too. Our page on how the site works explains what that means, with a side-by-side table of free and paid features.

Optional extras

Extras are small add-ons you can buy on top of a membership; none of them is needed to read and reply to messages. They include profile boosts, priority messages, a 24-hour pass, a look at who has liked you, and an ID verification badge, which shows that a member matched their face to their photo ID.

Paying in dollars from the UK or Ireland

All plans are charged in US dollars, so the amount on a UK or Irish statement depends on your bank's exchange rate on the day. The figure can therefore move a little from one renewal to the next. Some banks and card providers add a fee for payments in another currency; your bank can tell you whether yours does.

It renews until you stop it

Every plan, including any trial, renews automatically at the end of its period until you turn renewal off. If you only want one period, the simplest habit is to turn renewal off as soon as you've paid.

  1. Log in at the members' area.
  2. Go to Settings > Billing.
  3. Turn off renewal.

Deleting your account is a separate step: open your avatar, then Settings > Delete Account. Turn off renewal first, so nothing is charged after you've gone.

If a payment keeps coming out (UK)

In the UK, a repeat card payment can also be stopped through your bank. Citizens Advice explains that a regular payment set up on a debit or credit card is usually a "continuous payment authority", and that you can tell your bank or card provider to stop future payments. Stopping it at the bank doesn't change anything under the member terms, so turn off renewal in Settings > Billing as well.

What your bank statement shows

Charges appear under the billing name shown at checkout, so make a note of it when you pay. It may be a name used across the network rather than Fish for Silver Singles. If you see a charge you don't recognise, check whether you or someone in your household has a membership before you dispute it with your bank.

Refunds

The member terms allow a pro-rata refund only where at least 40% of the period you've paid for is still unused. In other words, ask early. You can contact the members' help centre about billing; our log-in help page explains what to include. The full rules are in the member terms.

Paying safely

Memberships are paid for inside the members' area and nowhere else. If anyone you meet on the site asks you for money, however good the story, stop replying and read dating safely over 50.

Questions people ask

Do I have to pay to join?

No. Signing up, making a profile, adding photos and browsing are all free, and other members can show interest in you without either of you paying. You only need a paid membership when you want to read and reply to messages, so it's worth looking around first to see who's there.

Why is the price in dollars?

Memberships are priced and charged in US dollars wherever you live. If you pay with a UK or Irish card, your bank converts the charge into pounds or euros at its own rate on the day, and some banks add a fee for a payment in another currency. Your bank can tell you what it charges.

Does a trial renew?

Yes. Every plan, trials included, renews automatically at the price shown when you buy it, and carries on until you turn off renewal in Settings > Billing. If you only want to try it, the simplest habit is to turn renewal off straight after you've paid.

Can I get a refund?

The member terms allow a pro-rata refund only where at least 40% of the period you paid for is still unused, so ask early rather than late. Contact the members' help centre with the email address on your account and the date and amount of the charge, and check the member terms for the full rules.

Will deleting my account stop the payments?

Don't rely on it. Turn off renewal in Settings > Billing first, then delete your account from your avatar menu under Settings > Delete Account. Doing it in that order means nothing renews after you've gone, and you won't need to chase a charge for an account that no longer exists.
